HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - State Department of Transportation crews have been out at least five days a week lately repairing potholes.

Potholes have been popping up across the state, due to the cold snap last week, followed by thawing combined with moisture.

DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick says for the most part, crews can only make temporary fixes this time of year. The same spots may need to be patched multiple times, before they can be fixed more permanently after the winter.

"In the springtime, when the asphalt plants open, we will have that hot mix asphalt available to us, and we can make permanent repairs."
