Auto Theft Detectives in Hartford Make 61 Arrests in 2018 So Far

HARTFORD, CONN (WTIC Radio)_ Hartford Police say that the three-member Major Crimes Division Auto Theft Unit has made 61 auto-theft arrests in 2018, so far. The number does not include arrests made by other divsions or by patrol officers.

On Thursday, September 6th, 2018, detectives from the Auto Theft Unit were investigating an auto theft incident on Wethersfield Avenue, where they say a 2005 Chevrolet Eqinox that was reported on the same day in Hartford.

Detectives sought to arrest the vehicle operator, identified as Jonathan Diaz-Santiago, when he exited the stolen car and took off on foot.

Authorities were able to catch up with Diaz-Santiago when he tried scaling a nearby fence, pacing him into custody without incident.

Diaz-Santiago faces charges of Larceny, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Owner's Permission, and other offenses.

He is held on a $50,000 bond.
