NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ A citizen of the Dominican Republic was sentenced to two years in prison in New Haven on Tuesday.

Federal prosecutors say 39-year-old Juan Torres Rodriguez posed as another individual in an attempt to exchange a Puerto Rican Driver's License for a Connecticut Driver's License at the DMV Office in Wethersfield on January 27, 2018.

Rodriguez presented a Puerto Rican Driver's License, birth certificate, and social security card bearing information belonging to the victim.

A DMV employee recognized the fraudulent information and reported it to State Police. Rodriguez was arrested shortly thereafter and has been detained since.

He pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated identity theft on January 22, 2019.

The investigation revealed Rodriguez was removed from the United States three times within the last twenty years - in 2001, 2013, and 2014.
