Officer Involved Shooting In Waterbury

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A man was killed by Waterbury police Monday while officers were checking out a report of a bullet being shot through two homes' common wall, Chief Fernando C. Spagnolo said.

Officers received a call from a property manager of the Craigie Avenue home saying a tenant reported finding a bullet hole in their shared wall. Spagnolo said that officers responded at about 12:30 p.m. and fought inside a unit with a man, using ``deadly force.''

The man was rendered medical aid and later pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, Spagnolo said.

The man had an active gun permit for the state of Connecticut, he said, adding that a gun outside of the officers' firearms was found at the scene.

Police had responded to the address multiple times in the past few weeks for other types of calls, Spagnolo said.

The officers who were at the scene are expected to be OK. They were not wearing body cameras. A representative of a camera company is scheduled to present their products to officers this week, Spagnolo said.

The identity of the deceased man and the involved officers will be released as the investigation continues.

State police are investigating. No further information was released.
