MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) - A state prosecutor says three police officers were justified in using deadly force when they shot and wounded an armed man during a drug investigation last year.

New Haven State's Attorney Patrick Griffin announced Tuesday that he concluded no criminal charges were warranted against Meriden officer Benjamin Pellegrini and detectives Michael Fonda and John Dorais.

Ryan Holley was shot by the officers on Oct. 18, 2018, in a drugstore parking lot after getting out of his car with his legally registered gun. Griffin said Holley failed to obey commands to put the gun down.

Officials say Holley had fired his gun into his own windshield before driving into the parking lot.

Griffin says Holley was shot four times and suffered a broken right wrist and broken left elbow.
