(New Britain, Conn./WTIC) - Central Connecticut State University officials say a student is being treated for bacterial meningitis.

University officials first alerted the campus community regarding the seriously ill student on Sunday.

Today, the state Department of Public Health reported test results did confirm the diagnosis.

DPH stresses it's a single case of bacterial meningitis and NOT an outbreak.

The disease is transmited through close, person-to-person contact.

CCSU says it has been in touch with all students who had been in contact with the student who fell ill.

The university also says it is working with experts to ensure safety of the campus community.

CCSU says those with questions should contact the University's Health Services Department
