(Farmington, Conn./WTIC) - With Hurricane Florence setting its sights on the Carolinas and the Mid-Atlantic, the American Red Cross has been readying its response.

Here in Connecticut, spokeswoman Stefanie Arcangelo says they've sent supplies and materials to those areas expected to be impacted.

She says the Red Cross has been preparing for a large scale disaster response in North and South Carolina and in Virginia.

Nearly two dozen volunteers from Connecticut are on the ground now.

Arcangelo says their primary mission will be sheltering and health service assistance.

Two emergency response vehicles are also en route.

Arcangelo says they're preparing for a large scale sheltering operation.

Once the storm passes, they'll gauge what else might be needed in terms of additional food, medicine, and other supplies.
