HARTFORD, Conn (WTIC) - With the current heat wave expected to stretch into next week, Hartford officials are reminding residents about cooling shelters in the city.

Asylum Hill Congregational Church will be open both days this weekend, while Parker Memorial Community Center and the Arroyo Center in Pope Park will open on Sunday. Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin is urging residents to stay inside during the hottest part of the day.

"Fortunately we're a city that has some beautiful parks," Bronin stated. "And also fortunately we have a city that has a library system, some senior centers, and churches that all form a coordinated effort to provide places where folks can go to keep cool."

Senior centers, libraries, and several community centers will be open during their normal summer hours starting on Monday.
