HARTFORD, Conn (WTIC) - The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System is retooling its plan to consolidate the state's twelve community colleges.

After failing to win approval from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the Students First plan has been revised to extend the timeline for a single accredited community college to 2023, develop a more gradually-paced academic planning and transition process, and maintain the current department chair structure.

The revised proposal is estimated to save $17 million when fully implemented, compared to the original $23 million. The Board of Regents for Higher Education is poised to consider the plan on Thursday.
