(Hartford, CONN. / WTIC Radio) -- The Hartford City Council Monday night unanimously approved a plan to redevelop Dillion Stadium.

The 10-million dollar project is the second attempt at redeveloping the stadium since 2014, when developers were found to be pocketing money supposed to be used for the stadium. They were later convicted of wire fraud and money laundering.

The Capitol Region Development Authority along with the Hartford Sports Group will now be tasked with redevelopment of the stadium that sits on more than 6 acres of land in Hartford's Coltsville neighborhood. Mayor Luke Bronin said in a statement following the vote, "Tonight’s vote by the City Council is an important step toward bringing Dillon Stadium back to life as a community asset.  Our focus will remain on protecting the interests of our residents as we finalize an agreement that brings professional soccer to Hartford and contributes to the revitalization of Coltsville.”
