PROSPECT, Conn. (AP) — Police have arrested the driver they say caused a crash in Connecticut that killed a retired Naugatuck police officer.

The Republican-American reports that 20-year-old Elise Gamauf has been charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and failing to obey a stop sign.

Police say Gamauf drove through a Prospect intersection in March and struck a Jeep, sending the car into a pickup truck containing 67-year-old Rocco Mastropietro Jr. and his wife, Denise.

Rocco Mastropietro died in a hospital two days after the crash. He previously served with Naugatuck police and as the head of security at Naugatuck High School.

Gamauf's attorney declined to comment on the case Wednesday.

Gamauf is due in court later this year.
