(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - State and local police agencies will be stepping up distracted driving enforcement this month.

Armed with grant money, troopers and officers will be observing "Distracted Driving Awareness Month" in April.

It's a continued effort to get drivers to put their phones down while behind the wheel.

Phyllis DiFioreis a program manager with the state department of transportation.

She says they enforce the year rounds but the goal this month is to also get drivers to change their behavior.

DiFiore also says another challenge is touch screen and gps devices in automobiles that can also pose distractions.
