July 10, 2019 - 8:37 pm

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC) – After a year-long investigation known as “Operation Fantasy Island”, New Haven Police and FBI officials announced the indictments of 25 suspects connected to gun violence in New Haven and the surrounding areas.

During Wednesday’s news conference, New Haven Police Chief Tony Reyes said the indictments send a simple message – gun violence will not be tolerated.

New Haven Police have, and continue to work with the FBI, DEA, and the Departments of Parole and Probation on this investigation, which stemmed from a string of shootings in the city of New Haven.

The investigation mainly focused on the gang known as the “Island Brothers”, a group that originally started in the area of Quinnipiac Avenue, but have spread to surrounding towns and nearby states.

With the ongoing investigation, authorities could not elaborate on specific details or names of the suspects, however, they note the previous incidents involve several towns and even the nearby states of New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Lieutenant Karl Jacobson also added that most of the suspects have already served time in prison, but continually engage in criminal activity involving gang-related gun violence.

The 25 suspects appeared in Federal Court and police said that more arrests and indictments are expected as the investigation continues.
