January 30, 2019 - 10:26 am

STORRS, Conn. (WTIC) - UConn trustees could vote next week on the University's next president.

The finalist to be UConn's 16th president is Thomas Katsouleas, who is currently Provost and Executive Vice President at the University of Virginia.

The Connecticut Mirror reports Katsouleas met with Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut business leaders Monday night, to discuss how UConn could play more of a role in driving economic growth. Lamont expressed to the Board of Trustees after that meeting that he supports Katsouleas.
The 60-year-old Katsouleas is an inventor and researcher, with degrees in physics from UCLA. Trustees will reportedly get an update on the search process during their regular meeting on Wednesday.

A vote to name Katsouleas university president could come as early as next week. He would succeed Susan Herbst, who lead UConn for eight years.
