Fire Crews in Westport Responding to Propane Leak, Increased Calls during Storms

July 17, 2019 - 8:52 pm

WESTPORT, Conn. (WTIC) – Westport Fire crews responded to a report of a propane leak from an underground tank Wednesday afternoon around 2:20.

Fire units discovered the propane leak was uncontrollable, as Hocon gas was called for assistance in addressing the leak.  Crews are expected to be on scene into Thursday morning.

Compounding the issue are small thunderstorms across the area, which has created a large number of false alarms secondary to power failures.

With fire department resources maxed additional personnel were brought in to cover the increase in calls.  With more storms in the forecast, officials are expecting additional power outages and road closures.

Chief Robert Yost also reminds any and all residents to treat any wires on the ground as “live wires” and avoid contact at all costs.
