HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - Tonight, the Hartford Common Council will consider raising the minimum age for buying cigarettes and other tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes.

The proposed ordinance would ban the sale of tobacco products to people under the age of 21.

Retailers would be required to ask for I.D. from anyone who looks younger than 21, and there would be a $250 fine for retailers who would violate the law.
