HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) Hartford police have made an arrest in a brutal liquor store assault that occurred last month.

34-year-old Pawel Onyszczuk of East Hartford has been charged with first-degree assault and attempted robbery.

The suspect attempted to rob the Trinity Package Store located on New Britain Avenue in Hartford back on July 6.

Onyszczuk used a home-made weapon to strike a victim twice in the head before fleeing the scene. The weapon was constructed of metal rods wrapped together with a cloth and tied together with a shoelace.

Three days later the suspect was discovered in West Hartford, where he was being held in connection with a home invasion.

Onyszczuk later confessed to police, and is being held on a combined bond of $310,000.
