HARTFORD, Conn (WTIC) - A unanimous vote by the Hartford City Council last night has raised the minimum age for buying tobacco products to 21.

Under the new ordinance, retailers who sell tobacco products to people under the age of 21 will face a new 250 dollar fine.

The Capital City becomes the first city in Connecticut to raise the legal buying age for tobacco from 18 to 21.

Mayor Luke Bronin says he will sign the ordinance into law in the next seven days.
