(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Governor Dannel Malloy is requesting federal assistance in wake of severe storms that caused millions in damage back in September.

Malloy has submitted the request to FEMA.

This, after storms on September 25 and 26 lashed cities and towns in Middlesex and New London counties.

State and local officials have been collecting data and calculating damage to determine if they meet federal qualifications.

In addition, Malloy has requested hazard mitigation assistance.

Towns and state agencies would be eligible for reimbursement of 75-percent of damage costs.

Preliminary damage estimates run more than $6.3 million.

The storms did damage to roads, bridges and culverts and dumped between 4 and 8 1/2 inches of rain in an 18-hour period.

Rainfall was estimated at between an inch and three inches an hour.
