NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Federal authorities have charged a New Haven doctor with illegally prescribing painkillers.

During her time as a medical resident in the Emergency Department at Yale New Haven Health, prosecutors say Doctor Jennifer Farrell wrote at least 35 prescriptions for Oxycodone for bogus medical purposes, in the names of at least five people she never saw as patients.

Farrell, 37, charged with 35 counts of distributing narcotics without a legitimate medical purpose. Each count carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

Farrell ended her time in the ER in June, and is free on $200,000 bond, now residing in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, according to federal authorities.
