NORWICH, Conn. (AP) — Officials say a weekend house fire in Connecticut that displaced two families was deliberately set.

Authorities say the fire broke out in the rear of the two-unit Norwich home just after 9 a.m. Sunday.

Battalion Chief Greg Despathy says firefighters had the fire under control by 10:42 a.m.

All seven residents home at the time evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.

Battalion Chief Scott Merchant says the fire has made the home uninhabitable. The Red Cross is assisting nine people in two families, including five children.

The fire was ruled arson but the cause remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to contact Norwich police.
