NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal is calling on the makers of apps like Waze and Google Maps, to steer trucks away from highways where they're not allowed, like the Wilbur Cross and Merritt Parkways.

Officials say when trucks end up on car-only roads, it's often because drivers have been following navigation apps-- sometimes causing trucks to slam into low bridges and massive delays.

One bridge on the Merritt has been hit almost 150 times in the past decade.
