WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut added 1,500 jobs in October, as the state's unemployment rate held steady at 4.2 percent, according to preliminary numbers from the state Department of Labor released Thursday.

The job gains offset a revised loss of 1,400 positions in September-- 900 more than originally estimated.

Six of Connecticut's ten major industry sectors added jobs last month, led by "financial activities" with 900 new jobs. The "trade, transportation and utilities" sector led declines, with a loss of 400 jobs.

The national jobless rate for October was 3.7 percent.
