HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut is leading a coalition of 51 states and territories in a third lawsuit against generic drug makers, alleging they illegally colluded to fix prices and allocate markets. It is the third lawsuit filed by the State of Connecticut against generic pharmaceutical companies.

The complaint involves 80 topical drugs used to treat skin conditions, pains, and allergies. It names 26 corporate defendants and 10 individuals.

“These generic drug manufacturers perpetrated a multibillion-dollar fraud on the American public so systemic that it has touched nearly every single consumer of topical products," said Connecticut Attorney General William Tong.

The federal lawsuit seeks damages, civil penalties and actions by the court to restore competition in the generic drug market.
