HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut has recorded its first flu-related death of the season. A person over the age of 65 has died of influenza, said officials.

At least 22 people have been hospitalized with flu-related ailments so far this season.

The Connecticut Department of Public Health reports that flu activity has been slowly increasing statewide since the end of August, which is typical for the flu season.

More than 80,000 people died nationwide from flu last year, including 154 from Connecticut.

Experts say now is the time to get vaccinated.
