COVENTRY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A Coventry police sergeant is on paid leave, amid allegations that he sent inappropriate Facebook messages to an underage girl years ago.

Resident Jennifer Burdette alleges that Sergeant Michael Hicks sent inappropriate messages to her daughter starting in 2012, when the girl was 15.

"He told her she was lazy if she didn't send photos and hounded her repetitively for them," said Burdette at Tuesday night's Coventry Town Council meeting. "He reminded her repetitively of his job title, quoting her non-stop on sexual-assault statutes, telling her 16 was 'good to go,' while she was 15." There was also talk of sexual preferences, according to Burdette.

Burdette says the messages surfaced last September.

Hicks was placed on leave October 1, as the department conducts an internal investigation, said authorities. State police investigated, but did not file any charges.
