MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Manchester police have arrested a Coventry couple for allegedly leaving three girls alone in a pickup truck in the parking lot of the local BJ's store Tuesday while they shopped.

Police say Beth Rich, 52, and Mark Babcock, 51, told officers that they were only in the store for five minutes and weren't aware that they couldn't leave children alone in a vehicle for a short period of time. Police say the children were in fact left alone for around a half hour.

Police say Rich runs a home daycare, and the girls, ages 2, 2, and 4 were enrolled in the daycare. They were unharmed.

Rich and Babcock are charged with three counts each of leaving children under the age of 12 unsupervised. They are due in Manchester Superior Court May 15.
