COVENTRY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A Coventry High School student is hospitalized after she was briefly pinned two vehicles in a school parking lot Wednesday morning.

As students were arriving for school, Superintendent David Petrone says a delivery van backed into a student. It happened as the 16-year-old girl was exiting a parent's vehicle and retrieving something out of the back of the vehicle, said police.

Petrone says the teen was conscious after the accident. Police and paramedics responded swiftly, he said.

The girl was taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford with hip and leg injuries, said firefighters. Police describe her injuries as serious but not life-threatening.

Police are investigating the incident. As of Wednesday morning, no charges had been filed.
