Crumbling Foundations: Supreme Court Sides With Insurers

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) -  The Connecticut Supreme Court has sided with insurance companies in a series of rulings related to crumbling home foundations.

In a trio of decisions, the high court finds that the language used in most homeowners policies exempts insurers from having to cover repair costs related to crumbling foundations-- a problem affecting potentially tens of thousands of homes, mainly in Eastern Connecticut.

Justices write that they recognize the gravity of the situation, but that the crumbling foundation problem does not constitute an imminent collapse of a home, and therefore isn't covered. Repairs can run into the hundreds of thousands of dollar
