Kickoff can wait, according to the CIAC's football committee.

According to a source close to the situation, the committee voted Monday to move the already-delayed-and-shortened 2020 high school season to next spring.

The CIAC's Board of Control can finalize the plan, with a vote as soon as Wednesday.

The committee's recommendation comes amid a series of grim milestones in the international COVID-19 pandemic: the worldwide total of known cases just topped 20 million. The U.S., with less than 5% of the world population, has 25% of the world's COVID-19 cases, surpassing 5 million.

Also, more cases among children are being documented. The American Academy of Pediatrics reports that, in the last two weeks of July, more than 97,000 children in the U.S. tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
