(Danbury, Conn./WTIC) - Danbury public schools will start the new year with distance learning.

The word came today from superintendent Dr. Sal Pascarella.

He says a recent uptick in Covid-19 cases in the city and discussions with the mayor, health experts, and others led to the decision to start the new school year for students at home.

The school year starts in Danbury on September 8.

Pascarella says he'll revisit conditions and impacts on the system by October 1 to determine the best course of action going forward.
