FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Fairfield Police arrest an Easton man on Wednesday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash.

Officials say Declan Kot, 22, was driving a Dodge Ram truck in the 2000-block of Redding Road in Fairfield on Satuday, July 4, when he struck a female pedestrian and drove away between 7:30 - 7:45 p.m. Police identified the victim as Marileidy Morel Araujo, 32, of Matamores, Pennsylvania. Araujo had been visiting her family for the holiday weekend.

Through surveillance video in the area and truck debris found at the scene of the accident, investigators were able to develop Kot as a suspect. Fairfield Police spotted Kot driving the suspected Dodge Ram truck on Tuesday. After an interview with Kot, an arrest warrant was issued. Kot was taken into custody Wednesday night around 8:45 p.m.

Kot faces charges of misconduct with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility resulting in death, failure to drive in proper lane, operating a motor vehicle without fenders, tampering with evidence, operating of a motor vehicle with tinted windows without tining sticker, and operating of vehicle with tinded windshield.

Kot has been released on a $150,000 bond with a condition that he will not operate a motor vehicle pending arrangment before Bridgeport Superior Court on Wednesday, July 15.
