EAST LYME, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Virtually the entire town of East Lyme lost electricity following storms that rolled through the state Thursday morning.

The outage was caused by three transmission lines that were affected by the storms, according a town official who was briefed by Eversource.

Matters were complicated by problems with a backup generator serving the East Lyme Police Department. As of around noontime, the police department did not have electricity, though 911 service was operating normally.

By early afternoon, power had been restored to most of town.
