Effective Immediately: COVID-19 Fines in Connecticut

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ The State of Connecticut has approved fines for COVID-19 violations, effective immediately.

Governor Ned Lamont signed an executive order that approves fines for COVID-19 infractions. The order goes into effect immediately. Governor Ned Lamont announced the impending fines on Monday during his afternoon Coronavirus briefing.

Guidance says the Commissioner of Public Health, local health departments, municipal chief elected officers, and state and local police can issue fines for violations of certain COVID-19 protective measures. These include:

- A fine of $100.00 for any person who fails to wear a mask or cloth face covering when social distancing is not possible;

- A fine of $250 for any person who attends a gathering that violates the gathering size restrictions;

- A fine of $500 for any person or business entity who organizes, hosts, or sponsors a gathering that violates the gathering size restrictions.
