NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut utility regulators have approved higher electricity rates for Eversource customers to cover cleanup costs the utility incurred from five storms.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority will allow the company to recoup $141 million in cleanup costs from ratepayers over six years, starting next month. The company had sought $152.5 million.

PURA found the costs were mainly related to line and tree crews which restored power to some 962,000 customers over the course of the five storms from October 2017 through May 2018.
