(WTIC-AM) -- Hamden Police are reviewing their interaction with a missing man from Middletown.  The department has launched an internal investigation.

Peter Recchia was reported missing on the night of October third.

Hours earlier, Hamden Police encountered the 59-year-old on State Street.

He had wandered into a house through an unlocked door and sat down at the kitchen table.

A 76-year-old woman who was inside the house heard him, and got him to leave.

A Hamden officer later found Recchia walking on State Street, but after a check for arrest warrants came back negative, the officer decided Recchia was not a threat to himself or anyone else, and let him leave.

Recchia is still missing.

Middletown Police said he does not have a history of violence, but may be delusional and in need of medication.

He was last seen October 4, walking near Millers Pond State park in Haddam, on Foot Hills Road.
