Hartford Police Officer Due in Court for Alleged Assaults

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ An off-duty Hartford Police Officer who allegedly assaulted two people Sunday is due to face a judge Monday.

City Police were notified around 7:20 in the morning Sunday that one of their officers, 26-year-old Joven Gonzalez of Windsor, allegedly assaulted a woman identified as a former girlfriend and her male acquaintance at a city motel. He allegedly struck the male victim with his firearm. The man sought medical attention before calling police. The former girlfriend sustained minor injuries from the assault.

Authorities investigated and found probably cause that led to the arrest of Gonzalez.

The Departent suspended Gonzalez without pay, in addition to stripping him of his police powers and badge.

Gonzalez has been charged with second and third degree assault, first degree reckless endangerment, first degree threatening, and third degree criminal mischief.

He is currently being held on a $150,000 bond with arraignment scheduled for Monday, September 30th.
