HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A Hartford police sergeant has been placed on administrative leave after a video surfaced on social media showing him stating that he was "“a little trigger happy, I’m not going to lie."

Police have not publicly named the sergeant, who apparently made the comments during an interaction with a group on Capitol Avenue Thursday night.

The department was swift to condemn the comments.

"Regardless of the context or the intent, those statements are entirely unacceptable and represent a fundamental disregard for the conduct we expect and the standards we hold ourselves to," said Assistant Chief of Police Rafael Medina in a statement Friday.

In addition to placing the officer on leave, the department has launched an internal affairs investigation, said authorities.
