Hartford Police Sergeant Arrested

(HARTFORD,Conn./WTIC Radio)  -  A Hartford Police Sergeant  arrested last December on charges of Using a Motor Vehicle without Permission, Larceny and  Computer Crime and suspended without pay, has been arrested again.Internal Affairs  Invesigators   found  Justin Torniero  stole police equipment and provided the stolen  property to  John Butler of Farmington.In March, multiple law enforcement agencies  executed a search warrant at  14 John Steele Drive in Farmington  in relation to  illegal narcotics. Butler was arrested   after  he was found to be in possession  of the Hartford Police Department equipment.The equipment stolen included a  police -issued ballistic vest and a  police-issued  mountain bicycle.

During the investigation  it was discovered Torniero  used cocaine and alcohol  and would drive his Hartford Police  Department vehicle to Farmington  in uniform  and would engage in  cocaine and alcohol use.

An arrest warrant for Torniero was issued Monday on one  count of Larceny in the  First Degree and  three counts of Larceny in the  Second Degree.Torniero turned himself in Tuesday evening  and is being held on a judge-set bond of $175,000.He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
