(Rocky Hill, Conn./WTIC) - A Rocky Hill-based health care group says it was the victim of a cyber-phishing attack.

Starling Physicians says it recently became aware that it was targeted last February.

The firm says email accounts were compromised and they retained a forensic security firm to investigate.

It was determined in September that the email accounts affected contained the names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and other information of certain patients.  The firm didn't say how many.

Starling has sent notification letters to those patients who've been impacted, providing information on steps they can take to prevent fraud and identity theft.

The company is urging patients to keep an eye on accounts and be vigilant regarding potential fraud and identity theft, and to report any suspicious activity.
