(Brooklyn, Conn./WTIC) - There's been an uptick in COVID-19 cases in the state's quiet corner.

That's according to the Northeast District Department of Health.

NDDH reports 20 residents aged 16-to-19 tested positive for the virus between July 23 and 31.

Of those, 8 were in Woodstock, 4 in Brooklyn, 3 in Pomfret, 2 each in Eastford and Plainfield and one in Canterbury.

Officials say in the first four months of the pandemic, there were 13 cases total in this age group.

Health director Sue Starkey says the increase mirrors what's taken place across the country with younger people eschewing masks and social distancing.

The department says it is conducting investigations to determine the source of the infection.
