Highway Contractor Struck by Car

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police are investigating an accident in a highway work zone that leaves a construction worker fighting for his life.

A contractor crew was installing a new gaurdrail on I-91 Northbound near Exit 20 after 8 p.m. Wednesday when a vehicle driving through the construction struck a worker, accordind to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The contractor, Dillon Peterson, 27, of Vernon, was taken to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries, said state police.

Police say Peterson was hit by an SUV driven by a Massachusetts man, that first came into contact with another vehicle, that fled the scene.
