Hit-And-Run Crash Overnight; Suspects Fled On Foot

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC) – A New Haven Police patrol sergeant came upon a motor vehicle hit and run accident at the intersection of Wilmot Road and Brookside Avenue in the West Rock neighborhood just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening, June 15, 2019. A vehicle turning onto Brookside Avenue was struck by another vehicle. Two passengers of the turning vehicle were ejected upon impact.

The ejected victims were lying in the roadway at the time the sergeant summoned emergency medical assistance. Five people between the ages of 17 and 21 had been in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Witnesses told police two people fled on foot from the other involved vehicle after the crash. The two ejected victims were transported by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries. One is listed in critical condition.

The NHPD Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene. The scene was held overnight, but has since been reopened. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the New Haven Police Department at (203) 946-6316.
