HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut hair salons and barbershops will not open on Wednesday after all.

Governor Ned Lamont says those businesses will now remain closed until early June, and will be reopened in coordination with the State of Rhode Island.

Hair cutting and styling businesses were to be part of the state's first phase of reopenings from coronavirus shutdowns ordered in mid March.

Lamont says he made the decision after speaking with business owners and employees.

“We’ve been hearing a lot of feedback from many owners and employees, and at this time I think the best approach is that we hit pause on the reopening of hair salons and barbershops, take a step back, and allow some more time as preparations continue to be made,” Lamont said in a press release issued Monday afternoon.
