WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ A man was shot and killed in a car entering I-95 Sunday night.

Connecticut State Police say that State Police Troop G and West Haven Police went to the Exit 43 Campbell Avenue on-ramp at 10:05 p.m. Sunday for the report of a shooting. The front-seat passenger inside the car, identified as Jawara Stennett, 39, of New York, was unresponsive with a gunshot wound in the right torso area.

Medics performed live-saving efforts on-scene, but Stennett was pronounced deceased. No other passengers were injured.

Stennett was visiting his Father for a birthday celebration and was returning to his home in New York.

Police say the suspect vehicle has been described as a "white SUV" with an unknown operator and unknown registration.

The case remains under investigation.
