MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The number of speeding tickets issued by state police over the long Memorial Day weekend increased by 62 percent, compared to the same period in 2019.

From Thursday evening through Tuesday morning, troopers issued 983 speeding citations, compared to 607 last year, according to statistics released Tuesday morning.

State police made 33 arrests for driving under the influence over the weekend, compared to 20 arrests a year earlier.
