NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Newtown police are investigating anti-Semitic graffiti scrawled on the front and side walls of a local synagogue.

An officer on patrol found the vandalism at the Adath Israel Synagogue on Huntington Road Saturday morning, said police.

Public works employees helped to clean up and paint over the graffiti before scheduled services.

The Anti-Defamation League is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible, said police.

"I look forward to personally asking the courts to offer no leniency when the vile individual is apprehended," said First Selectman Dan Rosenthal.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-270-4255.
