NORTH CANAAN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A North Canaan man is accused of intentionally failing to provide physical care to his ailing mother.

State police arrested James Madsen, 64, on Monday, following a nearly seven-month investigation into the care and subsequent death of 85-year-old Catherine Madsen, said police.

The two shared a home on Clayton Road in North Canaan.

James Madsen was due to be arraigned Tuesday in Torrington Superior Court on a single count of Intentional Cruelty to Persons.

Madsen was arrested back in February on drug charges after state police seized 27 pounds of marjuana from his home. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.
