Police: Officer Fired Weapon After Suspect Drove Toward Him

(Naugatuck, Conn./WTIC) - A Naugatuck police officer is on desk duty and the search for a suspect continues following an incident Monday night in which the officer discharged his weapon.  

Investigators say around 8:00 p.m., the officer conducted traffic stop on a car near the Route 8 on-ramp on Maple Street.

Deputy Police Chief Christopher McAllister says the suspect drove toward the cop before speeding off.

Police are looking for 24-year-old Rovnovsky Machado, whose last known address is in Waterbury.  Officer say the suspect is known to them.

As for the officer, he was treated for minor injuries.  

State Police have assumed the investigation, standard procedure when an officer fires his or her weapon.
