(New Britain, Conn./WTIC) - The Public Utilities Regulatory Authorit--PURA-- will launch an investigation into the state's two largest utilities regarding their response this week to Tropical Storm Isaias.

Governor Lamont is calling for PURA to determine whether Eversource and United Illuminating were properly prepared, evaluate their response, whether they had proper resources in place for a timely response, and determine if civil penalties need to be applied.

At a press conference at Eversource headquarters on Wedneday, Lamont said at first blush he wasn't pleased with the Eversource response to the crisis.

PURA chair Marissa Gillett says there was a "significant" lack of communication from Eversource to its customers.

In a statement, Gillett said utilties need to be held accountable for delivering reliable service, adding "I'm not interested in their excuses".
